When a beautiful aspiring writer strides into the East Village bookstore where Joe Goldberg works, he does what anyone would do: he Googles the name on her credit card. As Joe invisibly and obsessively takes control of Beck’s life, he orchestrates a series of events to ensure Beck finds herself in his waiting arms. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man, all while quietly removing the obstacles that stand in their way—even if it means murder.
This book is one of these incredibly creepy books, which you will either hate or love. Because this whole book is written from the perspective of a stalker.
The whole story is one of the most unique stories which I have reviewed on this blog by far and it is definitely the favorite. This whole book is so entertaining that it is very easy to dive into it and forget about everything.
This book is equally funny as it is terrifying. Because the main character Joe, is both a creep and the most charming character in a book I’ve ever read about. The best thing word which describes this book is “dark comedy”.
As mentioned above, this book was written from Joe’s perspective which means that we read both his actions and his thoughts. Which makes this book to even more interesting thing to read.
The writing style is amazing. The book is written from the bad guy perspective. Of course, the villain thinks that he is a good guy and everything which he is done for love. But of course, most of these things which he does are the very opposite of good. This book is just written so well that is almost impossible to explain it. The writing style is perfect, because it has all these right things which a book should have. And it isnt cringe.
This book is so intense that I lack words to review it. There are so many factors in this book that it is hard to explain the whole book to you without spoiling anything for you.
Joe is exactly like a Dexter and Norman Bates in one person. Joe is so complexed character that he almost feels like a real human being. This whole book is all about Joe and about his personality. And having Joe as a narrator is just priceless. The thing that this whole book is written from his perspective makes you feel that he is talking directly to you as a reader.
There are times when you will feel guilty by simply reading this book but you wont be able to put it down.
This book really shows how easy it is to be stalked by a stranger by Social media. But it also points out that it is very easy to misunderstand things and if someone is attracted to you or not. However it also points out how naïve and innocent some people are.
The whole story is super addictive, engaging and thoroughly thrilling. And there are times when this book goes to very dark places.
If you like pop culture references in books, then I have good news for you. There are a lot of these in this books, they are mostly comes from Joe. Which makes him even more a likably character.
However when it comes to the girl which Joe is obsessed with. She feels like a weak and not independent character. But there are times which she really shows her teeth and fights back.
Joe thoughts, lets talk about them for a second. There are times where his thoughts are so ridiculous that you just need to laugh.
This book also have some “Fifty shades of grey” type of stuff in it. You know these sex scenes which are described behind needed.
I give this book 5 / 5
